Enjoy an afternoon of Irish Culture and Music throughout the Roundhouse, on the terrace, in Torquils Bar and the Studio Theatre. Step onto the terrace to be wrapped up in the weaving, and earthy sounds of Jaquelyn Hyne & Friends, followed by Orlaith and the Lemons traditional Irish music sessions. Tad Sargent leads a beginner’s Bodhran workshop, a drum that is said to soothe the inner soul with its ancient trance like beat. The Long Notes Camden’s favourites, welcome in the evening with their distinctive folk, roots and celtic sound.

Paint your own Blarney stone, listen in wonder to our Irish storyteller’s magical tales of legend, and hunt for gold at the end of the rainbow. Explore a selection of stalls whilst feasting on homemade Irish stew. Whet your cultural appetite with a day of visual and performance art.

Amble down to the studio theatre throughout the day, to soak in an array of stunning Irish folk musicians. Headliner Kal Lavelle, will charm you with her effortless voice and beautiful song-craft, having supported the likes of James Brown and Ed Sheeran. Oh Ruin merges Irish tones with the sounds of Bon Iver and Bill Callahan. Maria Byrne and the Broken String creates a unique blend of folk pop and country. Treat your ears to the captivating fiddle player Alastair Caplin plus Rhob Cunningham and Jenny Lindford, two of Ireland’s most promising singer songwriters at our St. Patrick’s Day Hootenanny.

Kal Lavelle

Having previously supported The Beach Boys, James Brown and Ed Sheeran, 2012 is the year that Irish born singer-songwriter will step into her own limelight. Praised by Tim Robinson (6 Music), and Alex Zane (Channel 4), Kal will charm you with her beautiful voice and captivating songwriting. You can currently download her debut EP ‘Shivers’ on iTunes, the lead single ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ was chosen as iTunes single of the week.

Oh Ruin

Oh Ruin is the work of Eoin O’Ruinaigh, who hails from Dublin. Having spent years playing in various bands, including a tour supporting Morrissey, he has now gone solo. He has played many summer festivals including Green Man, End of the Road and Moseley Folk Festival and having played a 6Music session for Marc Riley. His first split 7” was released on Static Caravan records. For fans of Bill Callahan, Will Oldham and Bon Iver.

Maria Byrne and the Broken String

Maria Byrne and her band the Broken String have been grabbing many peoples attention ever since sessions on both John Kennedy’s XFM programme and BBC Radio 2. Originally from Cork in Ireland, her unique blend of pop, folk and country music, teamed with Maria’s soft and sweet voice is a treat to behold.

Alastair Caplin with Adam Beattie

Part of many London artist collectives, and currently playing with the likes of Brooke Sharkey, Garance Louis and Adam Beattie, Alastair is in the heart of the eccentric London folk scene. Having previously played with The Incredible String Band and Richard Thompson, Alastair’s fiddle playing is enchanting to watch. He also runs the Scottish and Irish folk night at The Jamboree.

Rhob Cunningham

Rhob Cunningham was a member of Our Little Secrets, who toured with the likes of Cathy Davey, Lisa Hannigan and Villagers. He has recently taken a break from his band to focus on releasing a solo record. He has played many Communion nights over in Belfast and at The Great Escape festival. Rhob’s wonderful songwriting set’s him apart from the haze of male singer songwriters around at the moment.

Jenny Lindfors

Jenny Lindfors sounds like she’s from another time. Her influences include Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young and this certainly comes across in her music. Having eleased her first record in 2008 to critical acclaim and is currently working on her second EP. The Sunday Times described her as ‘A hidden gem’ and she’s certainly not one to miss.

CIFD presents an evening of Irish music and culture in the Main Space of the Roundhouse, Camden, featuring  Camille O’Sullivan and special guests Damien O’Kane, Hot Sprockets and London Lasses  .

Ireland’s dynamic chanteuse, Camille O’Sullivan – described as “a cross between Patti Smith, Sally Bowles and PJ Harvey” by The Scotsman, this “princess of darkness, mirth, merriment and soul baring” will be playing a full set with her band, followed by a late night Ceili. Camille has built her award winning reputation with red hot torch song interpretations of the work of Jacques Brel, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Kurt Weill. Leaving Cork to run away to the circus, ‘The Famous Spielgeltent’, her considerable talent as an all round performer led to 5 star seasons and sell out shows for her solo shows in Sydney Opera House, Australia, New York, the Roundhouse and Royal Festival Hall, UK and Ireland, film parts alongside Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins, appearances at the national shrine of Irish drama, The Abbey Theatre Dublin and with the very English RSC, TV with Jools Holland and guest performances with Jarvis Cocker, Shane McGowan and Damien Rice.

Damien O’Kane is earning a growing reputation for being a creative and exciting musician and singer. His banjo playing in particular has led him to being regarded as one of the finest Irish players on the scene today

London Lasses and Pete Quinn will be ending the celebrations with a late night ceili. Over the past decade the Lasses and Pete have brought their unique sound to some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls. These include Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Glastonbury, Ballyshannon, Philadelphia Irish Festival and the Royal Albert Hall, where the band performed the first ever BBC Proms ceili as part of the 2008 season.

CIFD Presents Hush War Cry, Ireland’s answer to Wild Beasts and sparking a bright scene for the future of Irish indie. These Southern-Irish boys are tipped for big things in 2012 following the success of their recently released EP Apparitions. Their sound has been described as ‘delicate, nuanced and oh so sweet’ (Nialler 9). Guaranteed to send shivers down your spine they’re ‘fully formed’ and  ’hard to ignore’. For one night only join ‘CIFD presents’ for the chance to see Hush War Cry’s England debut performance and to bring the St Patrick’s Day celebrations at the Roundhouse to a close.

Camena’s recently released EP ‘Coming Home to an Eskimo Kiss’, expresses their effortless and fragile sound beautifully. This accompanied by the stunning acoustic sounds of Elizabeth Winter, finalist at The Singer Songwriter competition 2010 and currently under developed by Armarna Entertainment. This takes place in the intimate atmosphere of the Studio Theatre, and is an experience not to be missed.  These ingredients result in a spine tingling ambiance that nobody could refuse on a Sunday evening in March.

After 3 successful European tours, FAQ are now ready to make their live debut in Camden Town. The band became popular in the international electro-scene after going on tour with acclaimed acts such as Deine Lakaien, De/Vision, Mesh and Clan of Xymox. After supporting Apoptygma Berzerk during their ‘Welcome to Earth’ tour in 2000, and releasing two albums Re-Substitute and Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, they became firmly established in the music scene. In 2008, 120 years after Whitechapel murders in London’s very own East End, FAQ opened a new casebook about the most famous serial killer of all time. Who was Jack The Ripper? We don’t know for sure, it’s still a mystery and FAQ are certainly not the ones who will be able to reveal it. Their 5th official studio album Whitechapel tries its hardest not to give any new answers or theories. British bands such as Archive, James, Indochine, Radiohead, Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, IAMX and Kasabian influence them.

Keymono (previously called BrassBastardz) are a mix of synths, live instruments, electronic sounds, raps which flow, dreamy lyrical vocals and royal drum beats flow simultaneously with synthetic sounds. The prehistory of the band sums up to a release of 2 LP’s and 4 EP’s, a video that won nominations for ‘Most Stylish video in Lithuania’, nominal designer eyewear collection from vinyle called Vinylize, different songs placed in 2 different movies, 2 full albums: ‘Waiting’ and ‘Synthezatorium’, the song ‘Bubble in a Trouble’ winning The People Music Awards in Electronica/Dance category.

London seems to be becoming their main place of residence as they are spending most of their time here. Welsh musician EVM (Evermean) remixed their song ‘Everything’, which is now playing in London clubs. They also worked on a joint single with Peigh, a member of Banana Klan.

The music they like, people they meet, artists they admire and all that surrounds them influence Keymono.

This electro-filled night will bring something unique to the Roundhouse. Something you will have not seen before.

With a brand new studio album set for release this summer, the classic Taking Back Sunday line-up that recorded their 2002 debut album “Tell All Your Friends” will play the UK for the first time ever when they hit the road in May. The tour culminates with this prestigious show at London’s Roundhouse on May 20th. Rejoining long term members Adam Lazzara (vocals), Eddie Reyes (guitar) and Mark Connell (drums) are John Nolan (guitar/vocals) and Shaun Cooper (bass), who left the band in 2003 to form Straylight Run.
